Scene 1
[The camera cuts in from black to outside where we move up to a small house in a surbaban neighbourhood, the camera pans up the wall of the house to one of the bedroom windows, to the frosted glass. The camera moves through the glass and we come to rest on the bedroom of a teenage boy. As he stirs in bed, Bray turns over to face the camera and his eyes flutter open.]
(Bray glances over at the clock and sighs, as he pulls the cover back we zoom to the clock and see it says '25 December' as Bray recoils and picks up the clock, smiling.)
Bray (to himself): It's Christmas!
(Bray looks at the picture of his family sitting on the bedside table.)
Bray (sadly): It's Christmas... some Christmas, a pain in the arse brother and two parents in hospital!
(Bray runs a hand through his hair)
Bray: Guess its time to wake Martin and get to the hospital!
[The camera pans to Bray's sad face and fades to black.]
Scene 2
[The camera cuts in from the previous scene as we see Bray walking downstairs in his pyjamas. The camera follows him as he wanders into the kitchen, through the living room. We see that there is no Christmas tree, no Christmas cards, and no decorations up in the house.]
(Bray makes a cup of coffee in the kitchen as he pulls out two small wrapped Christmas presents from one of the cupboards, one is labelled Mum and the other Dad.)
Bray: Some Christmas.
(Martin walks into the kitchen, fully dressed and ready to leave as he adds a two further presents to Bray's, and then goes to get a glass of orange juice from the kitchen.)
Martin: Aren't you ready yet?
Bray: No Martin, I need more than five minutes in the morning to get ready.
Martin (sarcastically): Oh yeah, I forgot, the jock has to make sure that his hair is perfect.
(Bray rolls his eyes and puts the dirty cup in the sink)
Martin: Just get a move on. I want to be there as soon as possible...
(Camera cuts to later on in the morning when we see a full dressed Martin and Bray walking along the road and up the entrance to the hospital.)
Martin: This sucks.
Bray: Yeah.
[The two brothers say nothing else to each other before they walk into the hospital and head for the ward that their parents are on. The camera then fades to black.]
Scene 3
[The camera fades in black as we see Martin and Bray sitting besides their father's hospital bed. Next to him are the unopened Christmas presents, as he reaches for a oxygen mask and takes a couple of deep breaths.]
(Bray glances at Martin who shrugs and their father takes a deep breath)
Father (raspy): Just a little short... of breath.
Bray: Sure.
Father: Thanks... for the presents. I'll... open them... later.
(Martin smiles at his father as he grasps his youngest son's hand.)
Father: Can you give me a minute... with Bray?
Martin: You want me to go?
Father: I need... a private word!
(Martin looks really hurt and stands up)
Martin: Fine... do what you want! See if I care!
[Martin storms out of the room as Bray glances over his shoulder before turning back to his father. The camera then fades to black.]
Scene 4
[The camera cuts in from the previous scene.]
Bray: Dad. What is it?
Father: I'm dying son.
Bray (shakes his head): No... don't say that. You're going to get better...
(Bray's father shakes his head)
Father: No I'm not. And I need you... to be strong. You need to look after him.
Bray: Martin?
Father: Yes Bray. He's always been the baby, the sensitive one. You need to look after him. Promise... me?
(Bray glances at his father for the longest time, before he nods slowly.)
Bray: I promise.
Father: Thank you son. I love you.
Bray: I love you too!
Father: Now go and find your brother.
[Bray sighs and stands up, he picks up his coat and slips it on, he turns to leave and glances over his shoulder at his dying father, tears falling down his face as he does and the camera fades to black.]
Scene 5
[The camera fades in on a green garden as we zoom out we see that it is in fact the hospital garden. A few people wearing face masks walk around the garden as the camera comes to rest on a commemorative bench and we see that it's Martin. He has an angry look on his face when his brother sits down next to him.]
Martin: What do you want?
Bray: I came to find you.
Martin: Well you've found me!
Bray: Yeah. Will you come back in, and see dad?
(Martin turns to look at Bray, his eyes narrowed as he speaks)
Martin: You mean that you've finished your little private chat?
Bray (shakes his head): It wasn't like that!
Martin: Sure it wasn't! Cosy little chats.
Bray: Oh come on Martin.
Martin: Don't Martin me!
Bray: You're blowing it out of proportion!
(Martin shakes his head in disgust as he stands up and looks down at his brother)
Martin: You're such a jerk Bray. You always have been.
Bray: What?
Martin: Bray. The star. The one who gets everything!
Bray: Oh come on!
(Martin starts to walk away)
Martin: No... don't you get it Bray. I hate you!
Bray: What?
Martin: I hate you!
Bray: This is rubbish. You're just over reacting!
Martin: There you go again. Telling me what to do! Well enough is enough! Leave me alone!
(Martin storms off leaving behind a confused Bray as he drops to the seat and puts his head in his hands.)
Bray: All I wanted for Christmas was a bit of peace... I guess I'm not going to get that!
[The camera pans to Bray's pained face and then cuts to black.]
